"Eternal Flame" 20"x20"x1.5" textured acrylic- $600.00

The 60 series is over, but it's influence has remained with me. It's challenging to come up with so many paintings in so little a time frame, but I like the playfulness of doing them, and also, the creative stretch and digging deep to tap the well. Several of the paintings really spoke to me once done, and I've already created one large painting I'll be showing soon, but this one I am particularly pleased with, inspired by the series finale #60. The turquoise is so alive and dancing, I felt like I was creating super hot flames. A few names floated around in my head, but I settled on "Eternal Flame". I've added a side by side photo so you can see the comparison of the two. "Eternal Flame" is 20"x20"x1.5" textured acrylic gallery wrap canvas and offered for sale direct from me for $600.00 + shipping.

Next I'll post about another series inspiration that will be shown in NY at an equine festival. That will be in a day or two. Jonelle

© "Swirling Spiraling Snow"

A wintery day inspired a nostalgic type painting- of Swirling Spiraling Snow.

This lovely paso fino looks over to the side during a gentle but very cold snow storm, the horse stands covered with flakes on it's body, head and hair, yet is content in the elements. A vaporous steam curls from delicate nostrils into the frosty air. Even though I love the warm weather, I do love snow- I love it's stark beauty, the freshness, stillness and the peace it radiates. Big flakes falling and collecting on surfaces was something I loved to be out in, and this painting makes me think of those times with nostalgia for my growing up and early adult years in Upstate New York. Snow like this is a rarity in Oklahoma where I reside at the time this painting was created.

What do you think about the snow? Do you like it, love it, loathe it? Does snow bring you memories you like to revisit? I could list many wonderful memories from a snowy world. I'd love to hear your stories.

© "Poppy"

This is a revisit to a painting I did awhile ago that was done with the rarer white lines of my signature style. This horse could represent any of the bay paso fino's I've own, and I painted the horse in a field of poppies with the wind sweeping the horses mane, the flowers and the grasses. "Poppy" was one of the paintings in my first solo show and was also the first painting to sell. Sadly there was someone who loved it then, and still does now, that wasn't able to purchase it, and she mentioned this painting the other day. I did not expect that painting to be the first to sell, and because of that, I got the inspiration that horses with flowers was a place I wanted to further explore. Many were done, and there is sure to be more created as time rolls along. On a cold winter night it's nice to feel the warm winds caressing your skin while surrounded by lovely red poppies under the big umbrella of blue summer sky.

© "Fire Run"

Every year that I put together my art calendar collection, I try to have a month or two with a surprise painting not yet released to the public. This year was no different, and I am now introducing this years surprise- "Fire Run".  My signature equine form here has been laid out as a dimensional raised lines and I've used acrylic texture mediums to further give this horse impact and visual interest.

"Fire Run" features a handsome paso fino with bright and contrasting teal and turquoise hair against a rich and vibrant reddish orange atmosphere of a massive blaze. There are three other horses in the background running out towards the main horse and viewer just behind some brush that is also in the cool contrasting blue/greens. There is plenty of energy in this painting, but it is not over the top. Though concerned, the focal horse has a confidence in his eye that lends a feeling of grounded faith, that there is hope, that there is a power to trust in to get through the crisis.

I have a tendancy to panic and/or get wound up when pushed or faced with elements in my life that I can't control- the demanding pressures that I have to deal with occasionally. In that state of inner turmoil and chaos I sometimes forget that there is a higher power that watches over me to give me trust and faith that I will get through it.

I am the type who's nerves can fire off explosievly in stressful situations. How do you handle stress? Are you the leader who can remain calm and take charge reassuring others? Or are you the type like me that needs to be grounded and brought back to rationality?

"Fire Run" has already sold, and will be moving to Canada in 2015. I invite you to sign up for my newsletter to have updates and to stay in touch, find the sign up on my home page www.jonellemccoy.com  Thank you!

© "We Three Kings"

It's Christmas eve when I'm writing this, but I wish you all who see this on December 25th a very Merry Christmas!
What is it you're excited about with Christmas? Santa's arrival? Giving gifts, receiving gifts, family, all the lovely lights and decorations? All or in part? Or is it the celebration of the child king Christ's birth? This painting was done stemming from a memory in my childhood. My father was artistic but didn't pursue it as passionately as I do, but he still showed his talent from time to time. We painted the living room window a couple times with wonderful holiday street scenes and you know who did the carriage horses. Ah, that was so wonderful. But that's not the memory I speak of here. We were Roman Catholics, and a nativity scene was always a part of our decorations. These figurines were set up with the manger in front of a two panel watercolor panorama of the Christmas Star of shining down. That star and it's light has never left my mind. It's part of what makes up my thoughts of Christmas. So here is my memory spoken with my voice. "We Three Kings", three golden horses in a field are bathed in the City of Bethlehem's starlight, and they are well aware of it's beauty. Painted with acrylics on a 12"x16"x1.5" gallery wrap.
Wishing you all a very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!

Down southeast of me is the lovely island of Puerto Rico, a place I have heard much about, hope to someday visit, and a home of the breed I love, the Paso Fino.

I was commissioned by a resident there to paint his wife's mare Stefania. A gorgeous dappled gray mare, she has kindness in her soul and the brio in her heart for giving her all to please. I envisioned this mare with her 1st place blue ribbons waving in the breeze along with her mane, forelock and tail as she paraded around showing it off. As requested, there are hearts in the painting (for the brio), and the color blue (for the top honor), which worked perfectly with my vision of the finest. Turquoise was the favored predominate background color and Stefania has a reddish gold veined turquoise stone behind her and on her sash adding to the drama and finesse of the paintings theme.

Done in acrylics with texture medium to accentuate her pretty dapples, this portrait is 30"x40"x1.5" on gallery wrap canvas.

© "Tina Marie de Vez"
Yesterday was a pretty hot and humid day in Oklahoma, the kind of day that if you were going to be outside, swimming would be a great way to beat the heat. I've always wanted to go swimming with a horse, the opportunity hasn't presented itself yet, maybe someday. That idea made me think of a commission portrait I did of a lovely palomino paso fino mare splashing around in water. The acrylic painting "Tina Marie de Vez" resides in Florida, where the water looks so inviting to swim!

"Abayarde Puro"
Today I'll keep it short and sweet. I am helping a good friend by caring for her horses and farm so she can enjoy time away with friends, and I'm limited on what time I have in my day for all I do since it's a 2 times a day commitment. Thinking about vacations makes me think of places I'd like to go, and one is Puerto Rico, a home where my chosen breed, the paso fino, was bred. I was commissioned by a lovely lady to do her uniquely marked and colored paso fino stallion, the love of her life other than her family. I was more than happy to oblige her, and her gorgeous stallion Abayarde Puro has been immortalized. Maybe someday I can visit her and see that gorgeous place!

"Water Gets You Rett"
Going to revisit one of my personal favorites, "Water Gets You Rett". This was a resulting painting from a P2P (photo to painting) contest I had with paso fino breed friends. The theme was paso's and water. I knew the moment I saw the photo that inspired this that that was the one I'd do- it was such a strong photo to me. I greatly enjoy having it hang in my art room, I don't tire of seeing it there.
Having those contests, and I've had quite a few in the past, did several good things. It created a cohesive camaraderie amongst the breed enthusiasts, sharing photos created excitement and pride for the photo submitters, I got a following and happy collectors, and freely given (with permission of course) many great reference photos. If I had more time, I would do another P2P again, maybe soon? Guess I'll use the time I have until then to come up with a theme.

"Perigee Moon" 36"x36"x1.5"
I've been itching to try the new acrylic spray paints in conjunction with my acrylic equine artwork. I'm not unfamiliar with spraying, I've done airbrush and used spray paints at my scenic art jobs for over 20 years off and on. But not for me, not for my paintings. The painting "Perigee Moon" is my first large equine work using them- it's 36"x36"x1.5" gallery wrap in acrylic. Last year the huge Perigee full moon in the summer just entralled me. I had to get that vision down. Took me almost a year, but there it is. I am very pleased with the outcome. Enough so that soon I will have a run of limited reproduction prints made. When? That's TBA. This painting was done specifically for the exhibit "The Horse; Spirit, Art, and Soul" held in El Paso at the art museum. I have 3 acrylic paintings entered in total.
"Perigee Moon", "Zero to 60", and "Break Free" are available for sale, if interested, the Museum will be accepting inquiries starting on August 3rd when the exhibit opens.

The Horse; Spirit, Art, and Soul is a Signature Members exhibition of Equine Art in different media forms.

Founded September 16, 2010 by USA Equine Artist, Deborah Flood, The International Equine Artists was formed for artists who enjoy creating the horse in art. The group started out as a handful of equine artists from the USA, Canada and Australia, who wanted a place to network, share, and have an online community and professional presence. The Organization is based in the USA, but to accommodate those two other Countries, "International" was added to the Business Name. As the group became more popular, more artists from many different Countries around the globe requested to join. The membership has blossomed into a wonderfully diverse group of artists.

"Zero to 60" 24"x30" acrylic
This particular painting was an early larger canvas, and not one I liked immediately. I set it aside for 3 days because of frustration from the lack of satisfaction. I had tried some new methods for the design, and added a lot of color. Surprisingly to me this was a well received favorite that for a while hung in our home as my husbands then favorite. I had it framed and it was shown, doing well placing first in it's class.
It was entered and accepted into the all equine art show in El Paso, at the Museum of Art. I am excited for Zero to be seen at this exhibit.

Zero is available for sale, if interested, the Museum will be accepting inquiries starting on August 3rd when the exhibit opens.

©2012 "Purdy"

Just like most of the USA, we've been in a deep freeze for what seems like forever, though here in Oklahoma it's not really been that long- it just felt like it. Finally, the cold grip has broken and warm days are on their way, the weather will be nice and "Purdy" again! So in honor of this most welcomed change, I am posting the acrylic gallery wrap 24"x18"x1.5" painting titled "Purdy". Purdy is available for purchase at $435 + s&h. Ready to hang. See you on the trails- time to saddle up!
