Art by Oklahoma Contemporary Equine Artist Jonelle T. McCoy "Sizzling HOT!"

© "Sizzling HOT!"

This powerfully expressive horse bust turned out to be one of my favorites not only because it has purple in it (my favorite color), but the energy created by the contrasting yellow and his mane blowing up and over his head into the starry sky just struck a cord in me. Both my husband and I love a horse with a thick powerfully built neck, and our Paso Fino stallion has the perfect neck for our liking, and he finds himself in many of my paintings like this one because of his beauty. "Sizzling HOT!" has been sold.

Art by Oklahoma Contemporary Equine Artist Jonelle T. McCoy "The Bandit Waits"

© "The Bandit Waits"

I named this painting "The Bandit Waits" because of the way the area around his eyes made me think of a Bandit mask. The light is late day in the golden and red colors of the very soon to be setting sun. This acrylic is painted on an 11"x14"x1.5" gallery wrap canvas and is available for sale through my home studio at the time this blog is being posted. Price is $175.00 + shipping. Maybe he will steal your heart and you will make him yours! The Bandit has been sold!

Art by Oklahoma Contemporary Equine Artist Jonelle T. McCoy "Stallion Strut"

© "Stallion Strut"
Still visiting 2010 at the end of that year with this one that initially had me stuck, the horse was fine, it was the background that was bothering me. I worked with it some and ended up with the finished painting, and I liked how it turned out. This painting was something of a stepping stone for me, it's interesting how I can look back and pick out a painting that gives me a clear sense of a breakthrough, or change that I liked, or an idea for a series. "Stallion Strut" sold and went up to live in Canada with a collector that has a few of my paintings.

Art by Oklahoma Contemporary Equine Artist Jonelle T. McCoy "Pas de Deux"

Here's another from early in my painting start in 2010, an experiment using both white and black lines in a single painting to bring out two different looks in the horses, and also I was using marble colors and patterns for my backgrounds. This acrylic was titled "Pas de Deux" for the dance these two horses were sharing with each other. This painting is sold.

Abstract Horse Art by Oklahoma Contemporary Equine Artist Jonelle T. McCoy "Wind" Element Series 2010

© "Wind" Element Series 2010
Fabulous day of riding again with friends at the Spring semi-annual Almosta Farm shindig. Turned out to be a hot day with high winds with two outings on a different paso fino mare for each time, and it was so enjoyable. I'm posting an early series painting that I'd done in 2010 after starting back into my painting that reflects how today's weather was- full of "Wind"! This was done on heavy duck cotton with acrylics, and is sold.

Abstract Horse Art by Oklahoma Contemporary Equine Artist Jonelle T. McCoy "#27 Summer 2013 60 Series"

© "#27 of 2013 Summer 60 Series"
This painting speaks my feelings for today quite well- feelings of exuberance- not only did I have a wonderful time for the first day of a horse riding get together weekend with dear friends, my internet that has been down for several of the past few days is back in service. So hopefully it will stay functioning so I can continue to post, connect with everyone and write my blogs, I missed being able to do that! Tomorrow is another day of riding and sharing with friends. And what better way to go than on a paso fino- I love my smooth riding horses so much! #27, is one of my Summer 2013 60's Series, and one I decided to keep around.

Abstract Horse Art by Oklahoma Contemporary Equine Artist Jonelle T. McCoy "Tension"

© "Tension"
Yesterday was just one of those days I never want to have again, nothing went right, problems arose that I've still not been able to fix or address with positive results. I was in a stressed mood and wired for implosion- I was so glad it was over when I laid down to sleep! Today there have been a few lingering troubles that worry me, I still have the biggest issue to resolve, but I have hope to make some headway. So to be honest- I'm in a state of high tension, so therefore, I am posting the acrylic painting "Tension" for today. This has been painted with acrylics on a 24"x 18"x 1.5" gallery wrap canvas. It is available at the Sweet Earth Studio Mingle gallery in Shawnee, Ok. Contact:

Abstract Horse Art by Oklahoma Contemporary Equine Artist Jonelle T. McCoy "Jewel"

© "Jewel"
Just recently I got the chance to see this painting (and a few others) in it's collectors home. It was beautifully displayed in a room where guests can see it while grouped together. It was perched on a very attractive solid wood easel that had been found in a second hand store that offered higher end merchandise. I was so pleased to see it as a focal point in that room. It's really meaningful to me to get to see a painting that's passed out of my hands again to have the chance to study it again in person rather than by looking at it through my image files. I wish I could do this with all my paintings. Ah, the travels I could take and enjoy- and especially the ones in other countries and overseas. Maybe someday........ "Jewel" sort of looks like stained glass, it was painted with acrylics on a gallery wrap canvas. I also think it has the colors of Spring and of Easter eggs! Happy Easter everyone!

Abstract Horse Art by Oklahoma Contemporary Equine Artist Jonelle T. McCoy "Rise Up"

© "Rise Up"
This painting, "Rise Up", evokes a warm, positive, bright view on what's to come for the day. Some people embrace the days beginning with high energy and get right into living it, some are not that way, a cup of coffee, a little while to wake up is needed. I am not a morning person so the rare days I wake up with a fire under my bitt to start off with is a treat. I usually get my gears going after coffee and mid to late day. "Rise Up" has been painted with acrylics on a standard 11"x 14" canvas, and is available through my home studio for $150.00 plus shipping.

Abstract Horse Art by Oklahoma Contemporary Equine Artist Jonelle T. McCoy "Poppy"

© "Poppy"
I attribute this painting as the start of my horses and flower series. At my 2013 solo show in Shawnee, Oklahoma in the Sweet Earth Studio Mingle gallery (Sweet Earth Studio) this one was the first to sell, and I was a bit surprised, but it opened my eyes to the success of the combination and how I enjoyed and still enjoy pairing the two elements together. I've used poppy flowers in other work too. This was painted with acrylics.

Abstract Horse Art by Oklahoma Contemporary Equine Artist Jonelle T. McCoy introducing the coming Summer 2014 60 Series

Last year I started a Summer 60 Series, it was a great success- fun, creative and a really rewarding challenge for me. I used 6 inch square gallery wraps then, for this years 2014 Summer Series I'll be using 6"x 8"x 1.5" gallery wrap canvases. This will run for 60 straight days, paintings sold for $68 each and I'll be donating $8 of each sale to 501(c) horse rescue efforts (shipping extra). Last year I donated the portion of sales as they sold, this year to keep it simpler I will donate a lump sum from the sale of paintings- each buyer will be listed on the receipt of payment. If you have a request for a design I am accepting a limited amount of those now, they must be pre-paid for me to carry out requests. I'm going to be exploring shapes, colors and varying mediums. They will come ready to hang. This series will officially start off Friday May 23rd (on my birthday!) and run until July 21st posting at 8AM each day God willing. Each days featured painting will be posted here with my contact info. Pictured are a few examples of last years paintings. I hope you help me to raise $480 to donate! Thank you!

Abstract Horse Art by Oklahoma Contemporary Equine Artist Jonelle T. McCoy "Twist t he Sun Fish"

© "Twist the Sun Fish"
So yesterday I posted about the Oklahoma grass fires, well today I will cover tornado's. Rain is good, rain is life- here where drought and heat are so difficult as in many states, the rain is so needed, but with it come threat of severe weather, especially starting now at this time of year. This painting titled "Twist the Sun Fish" not only expresses the twisters, it also ties in with what they call a twisting storm of a bucking bronc, they call when they buck up high a sun fish. I know I for one do NOT like a bucking horse, nor do I like tornado's, but with both, I am fascinated to watch. This painting was done with acrylics and is sold.

Abstract Horse Art by Oklahoma Contemporary Equine Artist Jonelle T. McCoy "Oklahoma Grass Fire"

© "Oklahoma Grass Fire"
After a season of drought a few years back wildfires were a serious issue for Oklahoman's, it was frightening and there was so much loss and devastation. Nothing quite brings that feeling to light than having one near your home, as we did. Luckily I saw it before anyone else and got help without any serious loss or damage. My resulting way to express my feelings was through this acrylic painting, "Oklahoma Grass Fire" which is sold. We continue to have these problems with high winds, dry air and dry foliage. I pray for rain- just rain though, not severe weather like we experience! But that's another story and painting...........

Abstract Horse Art by Oklahoma Contemporary Equine Artist Jonelle T. McCoy "Don't Forget Me"

© "Don't Forget Me"
Today is my husbands birthday, and I felt today's painting was a good choice not only in the title, because I will not forget him nor his birthday ever, and the model for this painting is his heart horse, our gorgeous buckskin dun Paso Fino stallion Adonis. He loves that horse so much, and it's easy to know why if you saw him, he's magnificent. But to me, my husband is my heart. I love you Robert! Happy Birthday!
"Don't Forget Me" was painted with acrylics and is sold.

Abstract Horse Art by Oklahoma Contemporary Equine Artist Jonelle T. McCoy "Snow Dot Com"

© "Snow Dot Com"
When it comes to horses there's more than just my love for the Paso Fino breed, I love color. The more exotic the better, the aesthetics just add to my appreciation of the horse. I'm a big fan of the pintos, which the Paso Fino breed has, and I have always liked the Appaloosa spots. They are so fun and so unique, like fingerprints, not one is marked the same. So you will see an Appy pop up every so often in my work, like this little fun piece I called "Snow Dot Com" This acrylic has been sold.

Abstract Horse Art by Oklahoma Contemporary Equine Artist Jonelle T. McCoy "Spun Gold"

© "Spun Gold"
This little acrylic is one of a series of golden horses in the smalls category. I had so much fun doing the 60 series on 6"x 6"x 1.5" gallery wrap canvases in 2013 I painted more on the same size, which is what this one is sized. "Spun Gold" was sold through the local gallery I'm represented in, The Sweet Earth Studio Mingle Gallery in Shawnee, Oklahoma.

I posted yesterday using the painting "It's a Girl!" as an announcement for the birth of a friends paso fino palomino filly, well, before I'd done that painting, I'd done this one of a new colt laying in Texas Bluebonnets and daisies as part of my horses and flowers series. It has been done with acrylics on a 24"x 24" x 1.5" gallery wrap canvas. It is available through my home studio for $700.00 plus shipping. Ready to hang. I'm posting this one to honor the birth of a palomino pure Puerto Rican Paso Fino filly owned by a friend and collector. This is a rare filly both in color and in bloodlines, since there's not many palomino paso's and very few pure Puerto Rican's. Congratulations Carol on the arrival of this special baby! This painting is available through my home studio for $1200.00 plus shipping. Prints can be ordered here: http://jonelle-t-mccoy.artistwebsites.com/featured/its-a-girl-jonelle-t-mccoy.html

Abstract Horse Art by Oklahoma Contemporary Equine Artist Jonelle T. McCoy "Summer 2013 60 Series July 8th #38"

© "July 8th #38 Summer 2013 60 Series"
Last summer I did a series of 60 6"x 6"x 1.5" gallery wrap paintings that were $60 each and out of each sale I donated $6 to an equine rescue effort. Predominately it was to the PFUR (Paso Fino Urgent Rescue on facebook) because the Paso Fino is my breed of choice, though I did donate to a horse rescue locally. This endeavor was a great success all around. All but a few paintings sold. #38 was one that wasn't claimed, so if you'd like to give it a home and help out a horse in need since I'll still donate- contact me- mccoysartworks@gmail.com  Shipping in the continental USA is $4.00.

Abstract Horse Art by Oklahoma Contemporary Equine Artist Jonelle T. McCoy "Swing"

© "Swing"
"Swing" features colors that I really like together, as well as I like blue and browns together. I named this one that way because of how the lines came together, I saw the sweeping motion and I just thought of a swing slicing through the air on a fine summer day. "Swing" has been painted with acrylics on an 11"x 14"x 1.5" gallery wrap canvas and is available through my home studio for $175.00 + shipping.

Abstract Art by Oklahoma Contemporary Artist Jonelle T. McCoy "A Pair of Scissors"

© "A Pair of Scissors"
The state bird of Oklahoma is the scissortail flycatcher. These beautiful little birds with amazing tails perform swooping acrobats in the air to catch their insect meals. I enjoy seeing them around our country acreage. This painting was entered into the OKC 2013 State Fair in OKC in the open division of the birds category in decorative arts, it not only won first place but garnered a gorgeous purple rosette "Best of Show" in all of the open decorative arts classes. It now hangs in my home but I'd love to see them fly into your home to live and be enjoyed. This acrylic painted on a 12"x 36"x 1.5" gallery wrap canvas has delightful energy and appeal. It is for sale through my home studio for $500.00 plus shipping.

Abstract Horse Art by Oklahoma Contemporary Equine Artist Jonelle T. McCoy "Blooming Everywhere"

© "Blooming Everywhere"
I love the rich, saturated colors of the soft bodied acrylics I occasionally take out to work with. The bright rainbow combination in this recent painting makes me think of a spring flower garden in full bloom with a vast array of floral colors. This horse also sports a visible heart on his shoulder. "Blooming Everywhere" is painted with the acrylics on a 16"x20"x1.5" gallery wrap canvas. It is available through my home studio for $400.00 plus shipping.

Abstract Horse Art by Oklahoma Contemporary Equine Artist Jonelle T. McCoy "Iris Upon a Star"

© "Iris Upon a Star"
Using my lovely and sweet paso fino mare Indie as the model, I painted this acrylic of her delighting in the presence of gorgeous blooming Iris. Purple is my favorite color and along with many of my horses and flowers series green makes a showing along with the purple that I love in this one. Indie is one of the stars in my mare herd, and if you are observant, you will find a star in this painting. Hint to find it- use what you see with. This painting is sold. Prints can be purchased here: http://jonelle-t-mccoy.artistwebsites.com/featured/iris-upon-a-star-jonelle-t-mccoy.html
