Abstract Horse Art by Oklahoma Contemporary Equine Artist Jonelle T. McCoy "Native Rain Flyer"

© "Native Rain Flyer"
I painted this when Oklahoma was in severe drought and horrid unrelenting heat, day after day of over 100 degrees. I had tried all the usual to get some rain, laundry, washing the truck and leaving the window open, dancing out in the yard- nothing worked. So I took it upon myself to paint my plea, a painted paso fino with symbols I felt spoke of rain, and a Phoenix bird to transform the earth from dry to wet by taking the message of need to the heavens from whence rain falls. Amazingly it WORKED! It sold right away, and it was a continued miracle because the Oklahoman who bought it also got rain. "Native Rain Flyer" is done with acrylics. Sold.

Abstract Horse Art by Oklahoma Contemporary Equine Artist Jonelle T. McCoy "Turning Green into Gold"

© "Turning Green into Gold"
"Turning Green into Gold" is the result of a P2P (photo to painting) contest. This is a portrait of a buckskin paso fino colt. I don't often paint with green, but have always been fond of this one and how it came out. I especially like the texture given by the oak leaves in the background. This was purchased by Bernice, the colts owner at the time the photo was taken. Painted with acrylic.

Abstract Horse Art by Oklahoma Contemporary Equine Artist Jonelle T. McCoy "Brand New H'art"

© "Brand New H'art"

A little while ago I started these little heart shaped paintings, they are no more than 5 1/2" at any part, canvas on heavy cardboard both sides, but I only paint one side. I've called these my H'art Series. This one is called "Brand New H'art" featuring a new born long legged pinto foal navigating his beginnings of the world he's found himself in. Painted with acrylic. $25 + shipping.

Abstract Horse Art by Oklahoma Contemporary Equine Artist Jonelle T. McCoy "Heart of the Matter "

© "Heart of the Matter"

Though this painting was completed on February 15th, this is the first it's been publicly featured. It will be in an ad with the Visual Language online publication in the coming month of May. For equine artists this May issue will be a real treat since it's an equine theme, plus I'll have an equine painting featured in the winning line up of the AOT (Artists of Texas) Rites of Spring online art show, and there will be a studio article about me and my art. http://www.visuallanguagemagazine.com/
Also of note with this painting is the quite visible heart on her cheek, the heart is where the soul connects the ethereal to the physical in my opinion- so in one way or another my paintings will have a heart in them somewhere- whether obvious as this one, or small and hidden, and to those who are adept at seeing more than just the paint, but the soul of the image I've created. "Heart of the Matter" has been painted with acrylics on a 20" x 16"x 1.5" gallery wrap canvas and is available through my home studio for $450.00 + shipping.

Abstract Horse Art by Oklahoma Contemporary Equine Artist Jonelle T. McCoy "I AM, are You?"

© "I AM, are You?"

Here's an older painting I did that was a proclamation of BEING- being present, being aware, being confident and being sure of one's self. To give it some humility I painted it in blue to soften and bring some temperance, but purple to give once again that expression of self worth. I have a road ahead of me I've not traveled so need to be sure of my journey, so I need to tell myself  that I am ready. "I AM, are You?" was painted with acrylics. Sold.

Abstract Horse Art by Oklahoma Contemporary Equine Artist Jonelle T. McCoy "To Greener Pasture"

© "To Greener Pasture"

This is what I am waiting for, what's on the other side, in this case this painting was commissioned as a memorial for a beloved equine partner and friend, for me personally it's for what lies just ahead, that I'm crossing over from one fulfilling career to what I truly believe will be the best yet for me. "To Greener Pasture" is acrylic and sold.

Abstract Horse Art by Oklahoma Contemporary Equine Artist Jonelle T. McCoy "Glee"

© "Glee"

"Glee"- could there be a better description for what I feel about moving forward with my new chapter? I am sure there is, but this happy, leaping, jumping for joy rich saturated colored horse could just as easily be me out in the field just happy to be alive and not afraid to show it. Yes indeed, I could do that. "Glee" is acrylic on gallery wrap canvas, and is sold. For prints of this painting: http://jonelle-t-mccoy.artistwebsites.com/featured/glee-jonelle-t-mccoy.html

Abstract Horse Art by Oklahoma Contemporary Equine Artist Jonelle T. McCoy "Awake in a Dream"

© "Awake in a Dream"

So now that I've made my intention to give my heart and soul to my art in honor of this great gift I was given from above official, it's going to be somewhat surreal to adjust to the scope of this change. I will be making a transition from being someone's  employee to being my own boss and employee. It's like a dream! So for today's painting I've chosen "Awake in a Dream", this 16"x 20" was done in acrylics using the wonderful and completely fun and versatile Golden's High Flow acrylics. If you haven't tried them- you might find them to be an excellent new avenue for your creations. I am wide awake yet I feel like I'm in a dream, a GOOD dream. Have you followed your heart? This painting is sold.

Abstract Horse Art by Oklahoma Contemporary Equine Artist Jonelle T. McCoy "BHound to Get There"

© "BHound to Get There"

Tomorrow's the day I announce a major life change. It's exciting but I still want it to be over so I can breath knowing it's done, it's set, the course has been chosen. I feel really good about my decision, I believe- that's just it- I believe I'm "BHound to Get There". BHound was my first large sized painting attempted, a 24" tall x 48" wide acrylic. It was shown and got a first placement and a purple rosette Superintendents award which is basically a Best of Show award. I was so thrilled! This NFS painting in it's gorgeous custom frame hangs over my headboard so every night I go to sleep knowing whether in life or in my dreams, I have a direction to go. Prints can be ordered here: http://jonelle-t-mccoy.artistwebsites.com/featured/bhound-to-get-there-jonelle-t-mccoy.html

Abstract Horse Art by Oklahoma Contemporary Equine Artist Jonelle T. McCoy "Itch"

© "Itch"

This painting reflects how my mood was today, when wanting something badly the term having an itch to scratch seems appropriate. It can't be satisfied until attention is given and the itch is quieted. I am itching to get started on a new chapter in my life. "Itch" has been painted with very rich bright acrylic colors on a 12"x 12"x 1.5" gallery wrap canvas. It is now available through me at my home studio for $150.00 plus s&h.

t by Oklahoma Contemporary Equine Artist Jonelle T. McCoy "Herd Dynamics"

© "Herd Dynamics"

Something I enjoy about horses that seems relevant to any social creatures is the relationship they have with each other individually and as a herd. What is it that makes some leaders, some followers, some aggressive and some meek? And as a group they are strong feeding off of the security of each other, but individually they are more easily controlled. I would place myself as the quiet one that finds the middle ground, but the other day I wanted to put on my mare ears when pushed against in a social situation. So this brought to mind my painting "Herd Dynamics", they each have distinct personalities. Which one do you relate to? This is an acrylic. Sold. Prints can be purchased here: http://jonelle-t-mccoy.artistwebsites.com/featured/herd-dynamics-jonelle-t-mccoy.html

Abstract Horse Art by Oklahoma Contemporary Equine Artist Jonelle T. McCoy "Break Free"

© "Break Free"

First day of Spring, I think we are all happy to soon know the grip of cold will be gone- for those of us who live in the Northern Hemisphere that is. There are other things brewing in my life that have me longing to "Break Free", and not later, not in a bit, but now, but good things come to those who wait. The time is coming, what will be will be. I hope you find the wherewithal to break free of whatever oppresses you. "Break Free" is acrylic with texture medium on an 18"x 24"x 1.5" gallery wrap canvas. I've yet to determine what this one's availability status is, but will accept inquires.

Abstract Horse Art by Oklahoma Contemporary Equine Artist Jonelle T. McCoy "Look Around"

© "Look Around"

This is something we all sometimes fail to do- "Look Around", and at what you ask- start by just what's nearby, don't just look, but really see what's there. Open your eyes to the world around you and take the time to stop, breathe deeply, fill your eyes, heart and soul with the colors, sights, sounds, and why not smell and touch those things taken for granted. When I do that, mostly when I go walk, I come back refreshed. "Look Around", done with acrylics on an 8"x 8"x 1/12" gallery wrap canvas. Available through my home studio for $80.00 + s&h.

Very tired and not feeling that well this evening due to a vice like headache, but I want to be and have to be better tomorrow after a hopefully good nights rest so I can be productive and feel "Alive Inside" as this painting is named. A lovely blend of bright warm colors contrasted with some cooler color- feelings of rich positive thoughts and enthusiasm. This painting is sold, but prints can be purchased here: http://jonelle-t-mccoy.artistwebsites.com/featured/alive-inside-jonelle-t-mccoy.html

© "Harbinger"

I felt like posting my painting "Harbinger" tonight because I have been feeling like there is something special and wonderful waiting for me just around the corner- that there are signs being sent intangibly to awaken a need inside, and I want to answer it's call. "Harbinger" is one painting that once I had it professionally framed and hung on a wall in my house, just knew it was destined to stay there. Prints can be purchased at FAA: http://jonelle-t-mccoy.artistwebsites.com/featured/harbinger-jonelle-t-mccoy.html

Abstract Horse Art by Oklahoma Contemporary Equine Artist Jonelle T. McCoy "Sailors Delight"

© "Sailors Delight"

Yesterday I posted about a horse frolicking in the sea, this one is also oceanic in theme, something that always makes me think of my father since he was in the navy, and taught me as a child the rhyme about red sky at night, sailors delight, red sky in the morning, sailors take warning. This deep gold happy palomino is in that rich red light of the evening, the "Sailors Delight". This acrylic 20"x 16" is gorgeously set off by lovely bronzed stars just past the thin white stack frame and finished off on with the deep red wood patterned outer frame. This golden paso is available through my home studio for $375.00 plus shipping. Prints can be purchased here: http://fineartamerica.com/featured/sailors-delight-jonelle-t-mccoy.html

Abstract Horse Art by Oklahoma Contemporary Equine Artist Jonelle T. McCoy "I Sea Myself Here"

© "I Sea Myself Here"

One of my first paintings with horses and water, this one along the sea shore. I have not had many chances to ride in the ocean, but there was one memorable ride with my sister on the shore in Morocco. She was there in the Peace Corps and I went to visit her for several weeks. Riding those horses with our guide in the wind, on the sand, at the shore was amazing. I'd do it again in a heartbeat. "I Sea Myself Here" is just how I feel, with the play on words true to what I mean and where I mean. He's done in acrylics, complimentary professional framing completes this 16"x20" painting. Available through my home studio for $375.00.

Abstract Horse Art by Oklahoma Contemporary Equine Artist Jonelle T. McCoy "Daisies on my Britches"

© "Daisies on my Britches"

For fun, I'd host P2P (photo to painting) contests with horse owners/enthusiasts, mainly in the paso fino breed. This one's theme was foals and flowers, I told the contestants that they were to name their favorite flower with their photo submissions. I chose this cute little appaloosa foal coupled with the owners choice of daisies. Britches was part of his name, so I took that as part of the title. I really enjoy the horses and flowers together. This was purchased by the foal's owner.

Abstract Horse Art by Oklahoma Contemporary Equine Artist Jonelle T. McCoy "24 Carrot"

© "24 Carrot"

I auctioned this painting at my Sweet Solo show at the Sweet Earth Studio Gallery in Shawnee, Oklahoma as a donation for a local historical society building fund. I enjoyed creating this painting very much, and what can't be seen in the photo is the highlights of gold bronzing powder that just set it off perfectly. Glad it's local, I could always ask to visit it if I so desired. Titled "24 Carrot", it's an acrylic on a 16"x20"x1.5" gallery wrap canvas. Prints can be custom ordered here: http://jonelle-t-mccoy.artistwebsites.com/featured/24-carrot-jonelle-t-mccoy.html

Abstract Horse Art by Oklahoma Contemporary Equine Artist Jonelle T. McCoy "Reach for it"

© "Reach for it"

©"Reach for it" is an acrylic 15"x 30" that is part of an apple and pear diptych with horses reaching for the delicious ripe fruits. This one's title is self explanatory, the horse has to reach to get the apples. Along with it's partner with pears, this is sold.

Abstract Horse Art by Oklahoma Contemporary Equine Artist Jonelle T. McCoy "A Pearantly Deoable"

© "A Pearantly Deoable"

© "A Pearantly Deoable" is an acrylic 15"x30" that is part of an apple and pear diptych with horses reaching for the delicious ripe fruits. This one's title was a fun play on words using Pear since the fruit featured are pears, and Deo, who is a pinto paso fino gelding, is part of saying do-able, so Deo is apparently able to get the pears. I sometimes wonder if I got this way of word twist thinking from my father, he does this in his own way and always made me laugh. Along with it's partner with apples, this is sold.

Abstract Horse Art by Oklahoma Contemporary Equine Artist Jonelle T. McCoy "Goldie's Pain"

© "Goldie's Pain"

Some years ago I had a lovely palomino dun paso fino mare who was nicknamed Goldie. She suffered from a physical ailment of the hooves that was painful. It was a condition that required time to heal, and to see her uncomfortable made me feel so upset. I painted this 16"x 20" acrylic to express my feelings, it's titled ©"Goldie's Pain". It is available through my home studio for $325.00 + s&h.

Abstract Horse Art by Oklahoma Contemporary Equine Artist Jonelle T. McCoy "Honor thy Father"

© "Honor thy Father"

Had a call from my Dad this morning. He's getting old, he's in his early 80's, and it seems every day that passes I love him more and not just because I know his time is winding down, though I hope he has many more years left, but because I realize more and more what a fantastic person he is. Loving, kind, a romantic at heart, and he doesn't hesitate to tell me how proud he is of me. Daddy, thank you for believing in me, and loving me through everything. Your little girl- Jonelle
This painting posted is in honor of my father since it is called "Honor thy Father" sold.

© "Pole Dancer"

I am wanting to say goodbye to winter, but once again we will be in the grips of cold, windy, wet icy weather. Going to buckle in and just get through it. Horses are all set with hay, wood piled up for heat, and as long as the electricity is on, I will be painting while stuck inside. So please enjoy my painting "Absolute Zero", either way we're stuck with this latest storm.

Abstract Horse Art by Contemporary Oklahoma Equine Artist Jonelle T. McCoy

"Aromatherapy"

First day of March is here and I long to see green grass, flowers, the sunny blue sky of Spring. Winter hasn't left yet, but we can all agree, it will end and I will get my wish. So for now we can enjoy the idea of the coming fresh Spring smells of the great outdoors. This sweet painting of the horse sniffing the blooms brings what will come into view.
