"Almost" fun, comic, whimsical, illustrative acrylic by Oklahoma Equine Artist Jonelle T. McCoy

What artist doesn't every once in awhile want to experiment, have fun, push the comfort zone, try something new? I've been in that kind of mood, and here is the first of my playful results using a different approach to the way I create my line style, and other fun things. This comical, whimsical and somewhat illustratively executed painting has been done on a standard Frederick's watercolor canvas (very smooth surface) with acrylics. The size is 16"x 20". Called "Almost", who can admit that you haven't seen a horse do this and not laugh? The eager horse has his lips peeled back and tongue stretched out to get the prize, the juicy red apple. I hope he gets it! We all have goals like this we reach for, don't we? It is available for purchase.

Water Gets You Rett, perfect expression for a rainy day by Oklahoma Equine Artist Jonelle T. McCoy

"Water Gets You Rett"

Every once in awhile I host a contest on Face Book that I call "P2P", which stands for Photo to Painting. I pick a theme, mood, situation, gender etc and participants post their photos in hopes I'll pick theirs as the paintings subject. Early in the beginnings of this contest I had a photo posted that spoke to me so profoundly I HAD to use it, and it's become a favorite of mine. This is of a paso fino gelding in the theme pasos in water, his nickname is Rett. I love playing with words for my titles, this acrylic was named "Water Gets You Rett". It hangs over my computer monitor in my makeshift spare bedroom studio, I see it every day. And like my other favorites, I never tire of seeing it. Hope you enjoy it too. Prints can be purchased by visiting here:

This one is called "Glee". I wanted something that gave the impression of a vertical up-lifting energy and impulsion, using a bit of contrasting colors to add to the feeling of movement. I also see some SW flavor in it too. Done with acrylics on a 14"x11"x1.5" gallery wrap canvas for my 2-12-13 solo show.

New Year, new horse art, new ideas, new challenges

In just less than 5 weeks I'll be the solo featured artist at the Sweet Earth Studio in Shawnee, Oklahoma, and I continue to create more works to display, and it's interesting to me that I am finding what I'm doing changing, morphing, growing, as long as I keep my creativity stream flowing. This is a first for me and am I scared? YOU BET! Am I excited? AMEN- AM I EVER! Am I ready? NO, but only because there are more canvases waiting to be born. So when the paint dries on the current canvas, I'll be back at it. Ahhhh........
