Art by Oklahoma Abstract Contemporary Equine Artist Jonelle T. McCoy "Falcon de Vez"

© "Falcon de Vez"
Some time ago before I really had started to develop my signature line style, I painted some portraits in a more realistic style. This beautiful golden palomino paso fino stallion Falcon de Vez - owned by Dr. Bill in Florida- photo taken by Mary Berg, was the winning photo in one of my P2P contests on FB (photo to painting). This acrylic was painted on a Frederick's watercolor canvas, they have such a smooth, smooth fine surface to work on. The paint just glided on. Sold to the stallion owner. My oh my how I love those golden horses.

Don't forget that the Summer of 2014 60 Series kicks off tomorrow morning! Don't miss these daily paintings, stop in and visit to see what's new each day.

Art by Oklahoma Abstract Contemporary Equine Artist Jonelle T. McCoy "Wistful"

© "Wistful"
Some time ago before I really had started to develop my signature line style, I painted some portraits in a more realistic style. This beautiful gray paso fino mare- Nieve- owned by my friend Paula N. and who's picture this was painted from, was the winning photo in one of my P2P contests on FB (photo to painting). This acrylic was painted on a Frederick's watercolor canvas, they have such a smooth, smooth fine surface to work on. The paint just glided on. The soft colors and far off look in her eyes focused on something of mild interest in the distance gave me a sense of quiet reflection, and I named her "Wistful". Sold.

Art by Oklahoma Contemporary Abstract Equine Artist Jonelle T. McCoy "#53 2013 60 Series"

© "#53" 2013 60's Series
I'm getting excited, the start of the 2014 60 Series is counting down, just 3 more days! This painting from last years 60 series was one of my surprise favorites, I just loved his exuberance and the rich warm golden colors for the palette. This expresses a happiness that I strive to feel and have been eluded from for so long, waking with the feeling that life is great and worth running around all bursting with positive energy! The older I get the harder things are, yet- I experience this more often now. As I like to say- WOOHOO! #53 is sold.

© "Joy"
This little 6"x6"x1.5" gallery wrap acrylic was featured in my solo show Sweet Valentine back in the late winter of 2013. I really love this exuberant pose of a horse tossing his head up into the air. "Joy" sold at the show. I repeat this action capture simply because I get the feeling of happiness and joy when I do!

Art by Oklahoma Abstract Contemporary Equine Artist Jonelle T. McCoy "Zero to 60"

© "Zero to 60"
Sometimes what I see I perceive differently the first time I view it then later I take a second look interpreting what I see in a new light and with renewed interest, unlike falling in love instantly, love grows slower and with greater appreciation. This 30"x 24" acrylic painting "Zero to 60" hit me that way. I finished it up, looked at it, and was so discouraged. I felt it was a mess. It sat for 3 days out of sight, then I took it out to decide- keep? Or scrap. Wait a minute I mused, this isn't all that bad. This painting has become the favorite of quite a few folks, my husband included- he requested it not be sold since he wanted to enjoy it for awhile. I entered it in a show and won one of my first blue ribbons, how elated I was! I'd had it professionally framed in a bright vibrant red outer frame with a zingy equally bright inner stack yellow frame and how great that set off the painting! I am pretty sure I'm going to enter it in a juried museum show coming up this summer. It's only been seen publicly a couple of times, it's about time it had a larger audience. I convinced my husband it was time. It's so bright and just gorgeous. And to think I was going to shrug it off......

Clothing Art by Oklahoma Abstract Contemporary Equine Artist Jonelle T. McCoy

One thing I really enjoy is painting on clothing so I, or someone who desires to, can have a unique way to share the horse as art in any setting- out horseback riding, out on a date, while shopping, traveling or visiting friends and family etc. It started as a suggestion to do this on jean shirts, and I've expanded to short and long sleeved T's, dressy shirts, and jackets. A friend inspired me to add extra sparkle and interest with the addition of genuine Swarovski crystals. Each crystal is hand placed and hand glued one by one. In the light and the sun- WOW, they just sparkle so brightly!
Each article is hand inspected then selected, washed first for optimal paint adhesion, then after the paint has cured, the jewels are added if any. With proper care they can last and last. Some are enhanced with metallic or gliettery paint, photos just don't do many of these justice! Pictured is me with a jacket I painted for myself with our paso fino stallion Adonis. I have available stock.

Art by Oklahoma Contemporary Equine Artist Jonelle T. McCoy "The Last Straw"

© "The Last Straw"
I was pretty tired last night, I did some physical work that just over strained my lower back muscles, A good nights rest will help so I can get back at being active again today. This peaceful and restful painting is of a palomino in a sun filtered barn taking a siesta, I called it "The Last Straw". She is painted with acrylics on a gallery wrap canvas. Sold.

Art by Oklahoma Contemporary Equine Artist Jonelle T. McCoy "Dancing Palomino H'art"

© "Dancing Palomino H'art"
When I saw these little heart shapes I just knew they would be a fun project for me, and I was right. I enjoy taking them out ever so often and having fun creating equine art on a shape I feel is important. The heart is a symbol of so much, love, soul, empathy, courage, bravery, compassion etc. The breed I love, the Paso Fino, possesses "brio", this is the heart of the horse, it's pride, it's excellent work ethic, it's willingness to please, it's charisma and presence. No wonder I love to paint the paso's, they have so much to tap into creatively! The hearts are heavy stiff cardboard with canvas on both sides, measuring about 5 1/2" at any of the wides parts, and 1/8th inch thick. "Dancing Palomino H'art" was sold very quickly after seen. Oh how I love those golden horses!

© "I'm Precious"
"I'm Precious" is an acrylic painted for my smalls and Golden Horses Series on a 6"x6"x1.5" gallery wrap canvas. The name refers to the reference that gold is precious, and because I love the palomino and buckskin colors they are precious to me. Precious can be purchased for $60.00 + shipping.

Art by Oklahoma Contemporary Equine Artist Jonelle T. McCoy "Cheap Sunglasses"

© "Cheap Sunglasses"
I don't often paint using my signature line style with the lines remaining white, but on occasion I'll do so, and this one I thought came out pretty good. I just love spirals and I used them in this one more than once, and I liked how the lines encased the eye and to me, it looked like he has on glasses. "Cheap Sunglasses" was painted with acrylics on an 11"x14"x1.5" gallery wrap canvas. It sold from my Sweet Valentine Solo Show last year. I've had requests to do another with the white, maybe soon.......

Art by Oklahoma Contemporary Equine Artist Jonelle T. McCoy "A Fresh StHeart"

© "A Fresh StHeart"
I got such a wonderful response for the painting with the filly wearing flowers in her mane sporting a heart on her cheek (Heart of the Matter), there were mentions of doing a similar "repeat", and since I do very much enjoy painting horses and flowers together, I created this mare with her flowers and heart imprinted cheek. This is the same size, a 20"x16"x1.5" gallery wrap painted with acrylics, and I've dubbed her "A Fresh StHeart" (a fresh start). If you'd like to have this graceful mare decorate your wall, send me an email for more info at: mccoysartworks@gmail.com
She is priced at $450.00 + shipping. Until she is claimed, I'll just have her hang around in my studio for my enjoyment.

Art by Oklahoma Contemporary Equine Artist Jonelle T. McCoy "Piloto"

© "Piloto"
Introducing paso fino stallion "Piloto", a commission done as a dual birthday and Mothers Day gift from a loving daughter in law to her mother in law. I think this was a fabulous choice for a gift, something timeless, unique, personal and in a way a memorial to a much admired and loved stallion. It was the perfect gesture, and one that was well received and will never be forgotten. "Piloto" was painted with acrylics on a 12"x12"x1.5" gallery wrap canvas.

Art by Oklahoma Contemporary Equine Artist Jonelle T. McCoy "#55 2013 60 Series"

© "#55" 2013 60's Series
This entry into last years 2013 60's Series was painted towards the end of the challenge, it's #55, and it was the last one done of my idea, the remaining 5 were paid requests of personal horses. For me, this one is all about the foal. What an adorable, inquisitive look he has on his face. It's as if he can see you, the viewer and is looking at you just the same way you are looking at him. Too cute! Though I don't mind it being here, so I can look at mr. adorable, this one is still waiting to be claimed. These acrylic 6"x6"x1.5" gallery wraps canvases sold for $60 each + shipping and I donated $6 of each sale to a horse rescue. Would you consider adopting this family? For more info email: mccoysartworks@gmail.com

Don't forget- this summers 60's Series starts up in just 2 weeks! This year will feature 60 6"x8"x1.5" gallery wrap canvases. Counting down the days!

Art by Oklahoma Contemporary Equine Artist Jonelle T. McCoy "PH'arting Ways" from the H'art Horse Series

© "PH'arting Ways"

I found these adorable heart shaped cut out canvases that are double canvas sided on very stiff cardboard, they are about 5 1/2" at the widest sides and about 1/8th inch thick, and I just "saw" horses in them and got to work. This is the latest- "PHa'rting Ways" , pronounced parting ways, I like to use the H'art spelling in each title somehow. These make great gifts or just fun to place around for little decorations, I have other designs available too. These are $28 each + shipping. Email me for more info! mccoysartworks@gmail.com

Art by Oklahoma Contemporary Equine Artist Jonelle T. McCoy "Winning Hand"

© "Winning Hand"

This lovely big eyed paso fino palomino filly sports not only a diamond on her forehead, but a little tiny heart on her throat. The heart was not intentional, but the diamond was- so when I saw that little heart, it made me think of a game of cards with great cards, a hand of gold, and that's just what the palomino is, a horse of gold. "Winning Hand" has been painted with acrylics on a 24"x18"x1.5" gallery wrap canvas and is available for sale through my home studio for $600.00 + shipping. If you'd like more info about purchasing, please contact me: mccoysartworks@gmail.com

Art by Oklahoma Contemporary Equine Artist Jonelle T. McCoy "In the Sky"

© "In the Sky"

Here's my signature style with a little twist, the background with it's blue and white colors topped off with a golden horse made me think about the fun of relaxing and looking at clouds to see what shapes they form. I named it "In the Sky" because it gives me that calm feeling of a lazy, easy going summer day. This acrylic painting on a 14"x11"x1.5" gallery wrap ready to hang canvas is for sale for $150.00 + shipping. If you are interested in purchasing this painting, contact me: mccoysartworks@gmail.com

Art by Oklahoma Contemporary Equine Artist Jonelle T. McCoy "Carnaval Ride"

© "Carnaval Ride"
I have a soft spot in my heart for the pinto paso fino, love those random patterns and color distribution on their coats, and some have mixes of color in their eyes. I had the honor and delight to be commissioned to paint a gorgeous pinto paso fino stallion not long ago, and he has a partial blue eye. What a stunning horse! I greatly enjoyed painting this fella, and consider his portrait as one of my personal favorites. He was painted in acrylics and now resides and is displayed proudly in the collectors NY home.

Art by Oklahoma Contemporary Equine Artist Jonelle T. McCoy "#39 2013 60 Series"

© "#39 60 Series 2013"

We are experiencing very dry conditions here in Oklahoma, we've been crippled with drought over several years on and off, and it looks like it's back to dangerous. Hot air, low dew points and humidity make for high fire danger, and sadly that has already started to happen. We have 2 more days like this, and I pray there are no more fires, and the big one in Guthrie, OK is brought under control. A collector who admired my painting about the Oklahoma grass fires wanted a similar one done when I painted the Summer of 2013 60's Series, and hers turned out to be #39. I think I need to do another rain painting!

Art by Oklahoma Contemporary Equine Artist Jonelle T. McCoy "Paloma"

© "Paloma"

Not that long ago I received a request to paint a buttermilk buckskin paso fino mare by a lady who'd at one time owned her, and wished she was once again her horse- if not in real life, then in paint. I was more than happy to oblige her, I mourn the loss of some equine companions in my life- be they still alive or passed into the next life. "Paloma" was painted with acrylics, and now is enjoyed by her loving owned at one time person.

Art by Oklahoma Contemporary Equine Artist Jonelle T. McCoy "Coffee with Creme"

© "Coffee with Creme"

Some of my favorite colors that a horse can sport are the creme dilutions, especially the palominos. I've done a few of these striking equines with their golden coats accented with gorgeous snow white manes and tails. Many are part of my Golden Horses Series as is this handsome fella, chocolate palomino with his abundant white hair. As is part of my signature the title uses a play on words, in this case the coffee with creme indicates the creme color dilution rather than the cream you'd have in coffee, but it boils down to the same thing- that lovely cafe with milk shade. "Coffee with Creme" has been painted with acrylics on a standard 24"x20" canvas and is available through my home studio for $475.00 + shipping. Make this gorgeous fellow a part of your home stable! Art by Oklahoma Contemporary Equine Artist Jonelle T. McCoy "Snowplace like Home"

© "Snowplace like Home"

Though this is something of a seasonal painting depicting wintertime, which I know everyone is so very sick of it and are ready for Spring to really settle in, it's the message of the title that meant more to me. I am quite often homesick and miss my family- I'm far away and a regular schedule of visits just isn't possible, but I did get a chance to see my folks and a sibling with my husband last month, and it was wonderful, and was over far too fast. To me, home is Upstate NY, and will be always in my heart. So no matter the season- home is where I'd love to be. "Snowplace like Home" is an acrylic on an 11"x14"x1.5" gallery wrap canvas and is available currently through my home studio for $175.00 + shipping. Email me at mccoysartworks@gmail.com for more info!
