"Tension" 18"x24"x1.5" acrylic- available
It's been awhile since I posted, I've been busy but not so much on the art side. After the equine festival I was a part in NY, I came back home and felt somewhat out of sorts. There have been some changes in my private life that have good points and bad, I have guests coming for Thanksgiving that are staying a whole week, and soon after my husband has the first of his both knee replacements done. There is a LOT of preparation going on for the time he's recovering, getting wood cut, split and stacked since we heat with wood harvested from our own property, cleaning up in each room throwing out old stuff, donating other things and/or finding a new pile to put it in while another area gets the treatment. Sounds like an easy task? Ahhhh, no- it isn't. Small house, packrat type husband and a gal who really hates housework lol makes for slow going. I did put out the call for 2016 calendars, and I want to have some new work to put in it, but have found it hard to settle and focus on artwork. So much going on distracts my mind and me being scatterbrained doesn't help with the creativity. I guess you could say I am having a bit of creative blockage- caused by the busy list we face for a long haul of recovery during the winter- or by some other reason? I'm not sure. I do have a nice stack of started works, some smaller but more larger. So maybe say a prayer for me that I can find some peace in my mind, heart and soul to enter that special place where magic happens and I can connect what's inside to canvas. I can tell you all- it's something I will give thanks for on November 26th.

If you've ordered a 2016 equine art calendar, and have yet to pay your invoice, please don't wait much longer or your count won't be included in the print run. I only print those that have been paid for in advance not counting my own number- so don't wait, and yes, I am still taking orders if you want one! Thank you.

"Perigee Moon" 36"x36"x1.5" textured acrylic- SOLD

September is nearly over, and what a busy month it was! Busy doesn't equate to painting time however though I did have a couple art related events going on.
The NY festival wasn't as I expected, I did enjoy meeting fellow equine artists however and talking to folks was fun and enjoyable. I was glad to have family there to support me and that made for great photo ops.
I entered 3 pieces in the OKC State Fair and did good- 2 first places and a third. In horse racing, that is good to be in the top three! I got a nice critique by one of the judges and that was a rare and welcomed treat.
On Sunday night I spent nearly 4 hours sitting in the front yard watching the perigee blood full moon total eclipse- that was a rare occurrence and I was thrilled to have clear skies to see it. It's fun to imagine what people thought back before science knew what was happening.
With the advent of October just days away, it's time to start thinking about the upcoming holidays and for many- the beginning of taking orders for my annual equine art calendar. I will announce that soon, and will send out a newsletter mentioning it. You can sign up by going to the home-newsletter sign up page on my website here
For me here in Oklahoma, this is the beginning of better weather for horseback riding. Feels good to not just paint these wonderful animals but to go out and enjoy the world from the back of one!

"Fired Up!" 16"x20"x1.5" textured acrylic- $550.00

I am addicted to color- all color- though yellow I can only take in small doses, but it does have it's place and uses. I prefer my yellows to be in the earthy range, like yellow ocher and raw sienna for y golden horses. There are times a color combination captures  my attention and I repeat it to gather up as much energy from it as I can. Such was the case with this painting. It started with #60 in the summer series, was repeated in "Eternal Flame" (posted two blogs ago) and now here it is again in "Fired Up!". This one is heading to NY for the EQUINE! festival to be on display there. I know there are artists who's work encompasses just a limited pallet, and I don't know if I could do that- I like to use all the colors to express myself- for mood, emotion, and aura. My favorite color is magenta purple, but I don't use it that often to paint with. My niece just got married September 5th and her color chosen for the wedding was purple. I was so thrilled! I often wonder- why does one certain color or blend of colors appeal to people? Why do we have those preferences? With my art, I'm bound to touch on favorites since I love the whole color wheel.

"Desiring Unity" 30"x30"x1.5" textured acrylic- $1450.00
#41 July 31st Summer 2015 60 Series

As promised, here is another 60 series inspired piece, this one stems from #41 July 31st which had the two horses and varying colors. This was one of those surprise paintings that developed itself and I fell in love with it, I just knew it had to be explored again larger and in deeper detail. I chose a 30" square gallery wrap canvas and went from there with my line textures, fiber paste and pumice made up the filler on the faces and background.
I don't often paint horses in tandem, but when I have, I've been very pleased. "Desiring Unity" creates a message relating to the rift in our lives that forces wish to keep in place to drive us apart. Separate sticks can be snapped easily, but bundle those sticks and the strength in numbers gives resilience. There are some who understand this, as the bottom horse expresses with the calm and welcoming eyes, and some are scared and unsure, as seen in the top horses eyes. So which will prevail? I personally wish for unity, peace, and equality. "Desiring Unity" priced at $1450.00

Next blog post will be one using the palette of "Eternal Flame", the brick reds and turquoise.

"Eternal Flame" 20"x20"x1.5" textured acrylic- $600.00

The 60 series is over, but it's influence has remained with me. It's challenging to come up with so many paintings in so little a time frame, but I like the playfulness of doing them, and also, the creative stretch and digging deep to tap the well. Several of the paintings really spoke to me once done, and I've already created one large painting I'll be showing soon, but this one I am particularly pleased with, inspired by the series finale #60. The turquoise is so alive and dancing, I felt like I was creating super hot flames. A few names floated around in my head, but I settled on "Eternal Flame". I've added a side by side photo so you can see the comparison of the two. "Eternal Flame" is 20"x20"x1.5" textured acrylic gallery wrap canvas and offered for sale direct from me for $600.00 + shipping.

Next I'll post about another series inspiration that will be shown in NY at an equine festival. That will be in a day or two. Jonelle
